Finally…first.

After much tomfoolery, many shenanigans, some rascality, and a tiny bit of roguishness, this site is live. Said shenanigans included three different hosts, one VPS, five or six reinstalls, and one complete “start again from scratch because I am bad at Internetting.”

This whole thing really got started by the pun in the name. I have been maintaining (for better and sometimes for worse) a freshwater tank for many years, but it was very much an afterthought in terms of the overall ranking of my hobbies. Turning it into an actual planted tank bought it about ten steps up on the importance list – for reasons that are unclear to me, because I could not possibly care any less about plants or gardening on land. But in a discussion somewhere on r/homelab (where you should go if you’re down with unnecessarily complex home networking) someone’s screenshot of their pond camera had onlyfins in little letters underneath it, and I was inspired. In the last month or I’ve spun this whole situation up, and as a side note, spent a lot more time bringing the tank up to a place I’m pretty happy with. I guess it’s like finally going to the gym, when someone new is about to maybe see you without your pants and you’d like to make a good first impression? Anyway. Maybe it’s not like that.

The camera is obviously the star of the show but I hope to keep some general tabs on aquarium things, maybe with a focus on some DIY and random electronics nerdery here and there. Welcome aboard.
