A live, open record of wild trout behavior
Continuous underwater video of wild trout in a cold mountain stream, with minute-by-minute presence, automatically labeled behaviors, individual fish re-identified by spot pattern, and stream conditions. Open data under CC BY 4.0, plus an API and an MCP server.

What's in it
- Fish presence and counts in frame, every minute of daylight
- Holding, darting, feeding moves and multi-fish interactions per sighting
- Individual trout re-identified by flank spot patterns (watch the matcher learn)
- Relative water clarity, flow and light, plus NWS rain
Know the limits
Behavior labels come from automated motion analysis and are still being validated by hand. Clarity is relative for now. There's no water-temperature sensor yet. See the methods and limitations before drawing conclusions.
Ideas it could support
- Diel and seasonal activity patterns in a small headwater stream
- Feeding and holding behavior against turbidity and flow events
- Photo re-identification of wild salmonids from natural markings
- Teaching: live, real data for stream-ecology and fish-biology classes
